The Zhongshan Road in Xiamen looks empty. Over half of the shops along the street have closed. Aside from a few restaurants with some customers, most of the other stores are either for lease or have no signs at all. The doors are shut tight, and it feels lifeless. Once a bustling street, now Zhongshan Road is practically deserted, with very few tourists. The vibrant crowds from the past are gone. What has happened to this once-busy commercial street?
