At 4:02 a.m. on April 17, the 6,000-ton Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer JS Ikazuchi (DD-107) entered the Taiwan Strait. This marked the first time a Japanese warship had passed through the strait since Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi took office last October.
