Police Probe 2nd Bomb Threat Linked to Shen Yun’s Australian Tour
.
Police confirm they are investigating another unverified bomb threat, this time at the Gold Coast Home of the Arts (HOTA), which is hosting the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts.
The news comes barely a day after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was forced to evacuate after a bomb threat made against his official residence.
“As a precaution, police directed the evacuation of a number of buildings,” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesperson told The Epoch Times regarding the situation at HOTA on Feb. 23 just after midday.
“Multiple crews attended and conducted thorough searches of the premises.
“No suspicious items were located, and the buildings were declared safe.”
The venue reopened to the public around 2 p.m.
Police say investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a classical Chinese dance and music company that has been a target of repression by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for years.
Shen Yun was founded by practitioners of the spiritual discipline Falun Gong and showcases 5,000 years of Chinese civilisation, while also depicting the CCP’s persecution against the practice.
“If you insist on proceeding with the performance, then the prime minister’s Lodge will be blown into ruins and blood will flow like a river,” the second email read.
Lucy Zhao of the Falun Dafa Association of Australia issued a statement on Feb. 25 condemning the CCP’s escalating campaign against Shen Yun and Falun Gong.
“The coordinated pattern of bomb threats, death threats, and systematic intimidation constitutes more than harassment—it reflects tactics consistent with state-sponsored intimidation designed to silence dissent beyond China’s borders,” she said.
“Over the past two years, more than 150 bomb and death threats have targeted Shen Yun performances and members of the Falun Gong community across the United States, Canada, Europe, Taiwan, and other democratic societies.
“Some of these threats have been traced to sources in China. The scale, repetition, and global coordination of these threats raise serious concerns about foreign interference operations aimed at suppressing protected freedoms in democratic nations.”
Zhao also assuaged concerns about public safety.
“Not a single performance has been cancelled as a result, nor has physical harm occurred,” she said.
“The objective of these threats is psychological intimidation—to instill fear, pressure venues, and undermine democratic freedoms. These efforts have failed.”
