The Chinese Communist Party has been doing everything it can to challenge the U.S.'s global dominance, even going as far as aligning with Russia and supporting Putin's war in Ukraine. To avoid the impact of U.S. tariffs and trade retaliation, China has recently signed a so-called agreement with the U.S. to start buying American soybeans. But now, China's leader Xi Jinping is drastically reducing Russian oil imports—some say to zero—angering Putin. At the same time, Xi deceived Trump by buying soybeans once and then "reneging" on the deal, refusing to fulfill the agreement. What’s going on here?
