UK Maritime Trade Operations, or UKMTO, reported that in the early hours of March 12, the container ship Source Blessing came under attack. The ship caught fire in waters near Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates. No crew members were injured.
The Source Blessing has a capacity of 3,240 TEU. It sails under the Liberian flag. Hapag-Lloyd chartered the vessel and later sub-chartered it to Maersk.
AIS data for the ship showed the note “All Chinese Crews.” Ship registry records list the registered owner as Well Wonder 1 Ltd. This is a Hong Kong-registered company controlled by Chinese interests.
