On the morning of August 6, at 9:12 AM, a Z-9 military helicopter, imported from China, took off from Accra Military Airport in Ghana. The helicopter was part of "Operation Vanguard," a mission aimed at fighting illegal gold mining. The flight was headed toward the Obuasi gold mining area. But less than forty minutes after takeoff, the helicopter lost contact while flying over the hilly terrain of Ashanti province and ultimately crashed in a dense forest. Tragically, there were no survivors.
