Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald's are the earliest American fast-food chains that entered China. Retail giants Walmart and Costco, France's Carrefour, and Germany's Metro Group are also popular retail outlets in China. However, these foreign brands should reevaluate their Chinese market strategy. Beijing is rolling out new policies after the Party Congress that will reduce their competitiveness in the Chinese market. As the CCP pushes for state-owned co-ops and public canteens, the Chinese market prospect for foreign brands does not look optimistic.
