On March 7, workers at the Amara shoe factory in Nam Định province, Vietnam, staged a large-scale strike. The factory, which employs 11,000 workers, is owned by Zhongshan Huali Industrial Group, a Guangdong-based company from China. The striking workers demanded wage increases for employees with over five years of service, higher meal subsidies, factory-provided meals for those working overtime until 7:30 PM, and an additional 30-minute break.
