Following the Chinese government’s retaliatory tariff hike on April 9, President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on Chinese goods would be raised to 125%, effective immediately. He also stated that countries which had not imposed retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. would have their tariffs suspended for 90 days, also taking effect immediately. Trump further criticized the Chinese government for showing a lack of respect toward the global market.
