CCP officials’ speeches are long and boring but can be revealing. Comparing Chinese Premier’s recent work report delivered at the Two Sessions to previous reports, China observers found significant changes in how Beijing describes relations with Taiwan and its approach to “reunification.” The word “peaceful” is no longer used and Beijing seems to be more result-oriented. Meanwhile, CCP’s defense budget will grow at 7.2% in 2024.
