On April 10, the U.S. announced new tariff hikes on Chinese imports. First, the tariff rate on Chinese goods was confirmed to rise to 145%. Second, tariffs on small packages were raised from 90% to 120%.
According to an executive order released by the White House on the evening of April 9, starting May 2, the U.S. will impose tariffs equivalent to 120% of the value of goods on "small mail packages" valued at no more than $800. This is higher than the previously proposed 90% tariff.
The U.S. also confirmed that from May 2 to June 1, packages entering the U.S. will incur a $100 fee, up from the previously planned $75. After June 1, each package will incur a $200 fee, instead of the previously announced $150.
