Mirror Concert Dance Crew Released joint Statement: Stop Spreading Fake News
Hong Kong mega boy group Mirror opened their twelve sold-out concerts “MIRROR We Are Live Concert” at the Hong Kong Coliseum on July 25. Local fans were prepared to enjoy the show. However, their excitement was disrupted by a horrifying accident at the concert on July 28. The serious accident left two dancers injured. One is still in critical condition on July 30. Details of the incident can be seen here.This is an update on the ongoing situation: 10:25 a.m. July 31 updated: After the severe incident at the MIRROR Concert, all three engineering companies issued statements saying they did not install the giant screen. Art Design Ltd Art Design Ltd. took the lead in issuing a statement in the early morning of July 29, saying they did not participate in any mechanical engineering and/or any production and stage operations that led to accident-related projects and was only responsible for the stage designing engineering part. Hip Hing Loong Stage Engineering Co., Ltd The construction contractor-Hip Hing Loong Stage Engineering Co., Ltd., issued a statement on the evening of July 29, saying that the company was responsible for the manufacturing and installation of part of the stage projects for this concert. The rest of the mechanical stage parts have been manufactured and supplied by Art Design Ltd., including the sky screen lift and steel cables. Both companies draw the boundary indicating the accident was unrelated to their engineering responsibility scope. In Technical Production In Technical Production Co. also stated on the evening of July 29, saying that they provide qualified video equipment and designated structures for installation. They didn’t participate in any structure related to placing giant suspended screens, any production of suspended steel cables, or the operation of mechanical engineering. Engineering Impact Ltd On the evening of July 30, the prime contractor, Engineering Impact Ltd, stated they will not issue any information during the ongoing investigation period to avoid any misunderstanding or speculation from the public. They will provide a detailed explanation after the investigation by relevant departments. Complaints from Public As the various contractors seemed to be disowning responsibility, Hong Kong people, especially the Mirror fans, were angry. Some said, “No one is taking any responsibilities. Did the screen fly up by itself?” “Not my problem? You think you can wash your hands off it just like that?” “Did the monitor go up on its own?” “No one is at fault, then who is responsible?” ***** On July 31, 2022, 23 MIRROR WE ARE LIVE CONCERT dancers released a joint statement to clarify rumors. 06.35, update: On July 31, 2022, 23, in the statement, the dance crew expressed they would not be accepting any media interviews or making any anonymous online comments due to an ongoing investigation. The band’s dance team also clarified that any remarks made on social media do not come from the crew members. They urge the public not to spread rumors, unconfirmed information, or believe fake news. The performers also asked the public to only to base the facts on the updates given by the families of the wounded; they also never initiated crowdfunding for the injured dancers. The dancers wrote, “All 12 members of MIRROR and our entire dance team work very hard in our performance. Right now we stand as one, and together we will overcome. However, do not blame anything on the performers or any MIRROR members. And lastly, they wish the three injured peers, Mo, Fung, and Zisac, a speedy recovery. ***** 07.34, update: On July 30, 2022, Lee’s parents arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport from Toronto at about 715 a.m local time. Pastor Lee Shing-Lam and Mrs. Lee were greeted by Cathay Pacific staff and local quarantine officers. They were then escorted to the vehicle. They are currently heading to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Hong Kong dancer Mo Lee Kai-yin, injured by a plunging TV screen at the MIRROR Concert on July 28, 2022, is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). When responding to the media, Queen Elizabeth Hospital representatives replied, “The Patient completed surgery last night. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. As laryngeal anaesthesia was required during his operation, Mo was temporarily classified as a critical condition, based on clinical classification. His vital is stable.” QEH said their medical team would continue to conduct clinical evaluations and offer appropriate treatment to fully support Lee’s recovery. Lee was one of the dancers at the 4th show of the MIRROR Concert when a 200-inch TV screen fell and smashed him in the head and neck. It was later reported that Lee suffered from cerebral haemorrhage and C4 spinal cord injury, which caused him to be paralysed from the neck down.
