Factory Fire in Danyang, China, Leaves at Least One Dead, One Missing

A fire that broke out on Thursday morning at a factory in the eastern Chinese city of Danyang has left one person dead, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
The fire erupted around 10:31 a.m. at Yilida Plastic Parts Co., Ltd., located in Danyang’s Anle Industrial Park, state media reported, citing the city’s emergency management bureau.
By evening, one person remained unaccounted for, according to state media. It added that the search for the missing person continues, indicating that the death toll might increase.
Videos published by local media show thick black smoke and flames billowing from a seven-story industrial building.
Witnesses, including a nearby shop owner, told local media that the fire became intense by mid-morning but was largely under control by around 3 p.m.
According to state media Beijing News, citing local authorities, the cause is under investigation.
As of publication time, local authorities have not disclosed the full extent of the damage.
Yilila Plastic Parts Co. was established in 2001 and specializes in plastic injection molding and precision mold-making for industries like automotive and electronics, according to local media.
