As the tenth anniversary of Chinese president Xi Jinping's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) approaches, a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China remarked, "Over the past decade, we have accumulated numerous achievements through cooperation". However, criticism towards the BRI has been escalating internationally. Many participating nations are grappling with debt crises, signaling the end of the golden era of Beijing as a financial benefactor. Once heralded as Xi Jinping's project of the century, the initiative is now sarcastically referred to as the "Belt and Road to Death".
