2015 Chinese New Year Was Abnormal, With People Broke and Even Shanghai Unusually Empty

.

This is my first time spending the Chinese New Year in Shanghai, and it's really opened my eyes.
If you didn’t know better, you’d think the city was in lockdown again, with nobody on the streets. There’s not even any red decorations. The vibe this year is all about how quiet it is. The subway, usually packed, now has enough space to dance on the train. I’m wondering, do people in Shanghai not visit their relatives? Nanjing West Road, usually swarming with people, is now almost deserted. Whether local or from out of town, everyone’s a key player in this city; it wouldn’t be the same without anyone. Come back soon after the holiday, alright? Shanghai needs every dream-chaser to keep it alive. Wishing everyone a happy New Year!
