In-depth Analysis: The Fall of the Former CCP Justice Minister | Fierce Power Struggle Rages on

On Oct. 2, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) released the news that Fu Zhenghua, former Minister of Justice and former Vice Minister of Public Security of the CCP, was investigated for alleged serious disciplinary violations. And just two days ago, on September 30, another former Vice Minister of Public Security, Sun Lijun, was suddenly expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office. He was then transferred to the procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution. These two pieces of news related to Xi Jinping's political and legal purges came one after another, sparking concern in China and internationally. It is worth mentioning that since Xi Jinping came to power in 2012, there has been a continuous purge of the Jiang faction-controlled political and legal authorities, with four vice ministers of public security having fallen out of favor so far. From the beginning of the year to the present, 23 CCP senior officials above the vice-ministerial level have fallen, with the majority being in the Jiang faction. There are two points to note about Fu's fall: First, he was a former member of Jiang's faction and a trusted member of former Political and Legal Affairs Commission Secretary Zhou Yongkang. However, he betrayed Zhou Yongkang and defected to Xi Jinping when he came to power in 2012, and reportedly “saved” Xi Jinping's life; second, looking at Fu's career, his promotion and this investigation are closely related to Sun Lijun, who is alleged to have been involved in a major attempted murder of Xi Jinping, and it is interesting to see if Fu Zhenghua is involved.
